Small Goddess Locs FAQ’s

How long did it take me to install the small goddess locs?

It took me one day to braid all of my hair, I have over 120 mini locs installed, and I would say it took me about 2 days to do the style.

What kind of hair did I use?

Braiding hair: FreeTress Braid Deep Twist 22″, FreeTress Braid Water Wave 22″, and Zury Bohemian Braid 20″.

Twisting hair, I used: Natural Kinky Braid just in 2 different colors 2 and 4. I did this for a natural highlighted color.

How did I seal the ends?

For the wraps that are past my hair, I put a little super glue. For the wraps that are closet to my root, I hand wrapped it. I put the loc between my palms and rubbed it together.

What kind of edge gel did I use?

I used Cantu’s stay gel.

What kind of moisturizing products did I use?

I used Shea Moisture Hold & Shine Moisture Mist. I lifted and sprayed it in between the locs. Then I used Tropic Isle Living Jamaican Strong Roots Red Pimento Hair Growth Oil on my roots.

What products did I use to wash my hair?

I love apple cider vinegar it brings your scalp back to its natural pH balance, is a great cleanser, and gives hair shine. It pretty much gets your hair back to where it’s supposed to be. I love Cantu’s already formulated apple cider vinegar. I wet my hair and put it directly onto my scalp, massage, and rinse. Next,  I conditioned the locs with Cantu’s Hydrating Cream Conditioner. Afterward, I applied it to my roots and pressed it into the locs so that the moisture would penetrate to my hair. I would also add a leave-in conditioner while it was damp. I used Miracle Leave-In Plus Keratin by It’s A 10 and HCO Leave-in Conditioner by Design Essentials.

How did I keep them clean between washing?

I used Head and Shoulders Clinical Solutions to cleanse the scalp. Then I used Cantu’s Apple Cider Dry Co-Wash for the locs. I love this product cause it has tea tree oil and apple cider which are both natural antibacterials. I just spray the hair to get them clean and refreshed.

How did I sleep in the locs?

I used an extra large scarf. But If you don’t want any hair out while you sleep you can get an extra large satin lined bonnet.

A lot of you asked would I loc my own hair?

This is something that I have been thinking about over the last couple of years. I don’t know if I’ll do it now but it’s something that may consider sometime in the future. I really love this style so I’m definitely not ruling it out.

Steps To Removing The Small Goddess Locs:

Step 1: Start at the root and twist the artificial hair in the opposite direction. The hair will start to unravel.

Step 2: To fully unravel the hair cut a piece of the twisted hair. Continue to unravel and remove the hair.

Step 3: As the artificial hair unravels start to pull it down to expose the braid underneath.

Step 4: To get the twisted hair all the way off cut off the super glued end and continue to pull the twisted hair off fully exposing the braid. Remember not to cut too much – your hair is under there.

Step 5: With the twisted hair removed and all of your braids are exposed. You will now unbraid the hair. Gently remove the added in hair.

Step 6: With the braided hair gone you will gently break up the build-up and with your finger and gently comb through with a fine tooth comb.

That’s it, all done! Wash, condition, and don’t forget to deep conditioning.

Helpful Tips

If you put your hair up using bands be mindful of the constant pulling your locs through the band. The twisted hair can and will shift. Instead, take an old band, cut it, and wrap the band around your hair and tie it.

Wearing protective styles gives you the freedom of not having to worry about styling your hair. It also gives you an opportunity to really focus on your scalp care.

These locs are heavy when they get wet. Wrap them up in a towel and pile it on top of your head to take some of the weight off.
