If you remember a while back I shared a list of Black-owned vegan and cruelty-free makeup brands. This time around I’m gonna give you a list of vegan and cruelty-free natural hair brands. Just as a refresher let’s talk about the difference between vegan and cruelty-free. Yes, there is a difference, and yes a brand can be one or the other as well as both.

What does vegan and cruelty-free mean?

Cruelty-free means it was not tested on animals during any stage of its production and contains no animal by-product. It’s also important to remember that a brand can be vegan but not cruelty-free and vice versa. Most natural hair brands aren’t tested on animals but may still contain ingredients like biotin, keratin, silk powder, and gelatin – all of which are animal by-products. Vegan brands don’t use any ingredients derived from animals, which makes them an ethical cruelty-free choice.

16 Black-Owned Vegan and Cruelty-Free Natural Hair Brands

Now that you know the difference let’s take a look at some Black-owned vegan and cruelty haircare brands. Please note that some brands are not 100% vegan due to such ingredients as honey and goat’s milk, etc. You will have to check the labels or shop their vegan line of products.
