Welcome back to our four part series Natural At Any Stage In Life: A Four Part Natural Hair Journey. We are half way through the stories of four women who are sharing their natural hair stories. Having natural hair is an amazing thing as it has a way of connecting people, sometimes people whom we’ve never met before. We can make these connects practically anywhere, and it doesn’t matter your background, upbringing or education as it is our natural hair journey that will forever join us.

Over the course of this series you will meet Olamide, Reese, Yemi and Nagawa, who will be sharing their natural journey’s and what they love most about their natural hair.

Nagawa, 40’s, Business Executive, Civic Leader and Wellness Enthusiast

When did you first go natural?

I’ve been “natural” most of my life with the exception of a few periodic stints of hair relaxers, including a jheri curl. LOL! But for the past three plus years I’ve been natural, without any form of straightening or hair alterations.

How are you currently rocking your hair and why?

Right now I’m currently sporting a short frohawk. It’s totally me! I’m all about being FREE! Free to be me, free to express myself creatively, free to live an active lifestyle, free to spend time with family and friends, free to advocate for others and free to focus my money and time on what matters most to me.

What do you love the most about your hair?

I am in love with the natural texture and artistic expression of my hair. I also love the fact that “no wind nor rain nor winter’s cold can stop me. My natural hair can stand its ground pretty well. My natural hair is bold and beautiful without much effort!

More thoughts from Nagawa…

My natural hairstyle works well for me personally and professionally. It suits me from morning until evening and fits any occasion. My natural hairstyle “speaks” to everyone. It transcends cultures and is always open. It is genuinely me.
