Welcome back to your four part series Natural At Any Stage In Life: A Four Part Natural Hair Journey. This series came to be as I’ve found that natural hair has a way of connecting people, sometimes people whom we’ve never met before. We can make these connects practically anywhere, and it doesn’t matter your background, upbringing or education as it is our natural hair journey that will forever join us.

Over the course of this series you will meet Olamide, Nagawa and Yemi, and Reese who will be sharing their natural journeys and what they love most about their natural hair.

Reese, 30-something, Crochet Stylist/Blogger

When did you first go natural?

I started transitioning from relaxed to natural back in December of 2015. I was the “creamy crack queen” and finally decided I wanted to embrace my natural texture. Sadly, I was totally one of the girls who bought into the myth that straight hair is “good hair”. So it took a lot of waking up to realize that my black is beautiful, including every inch of my natural hair. And I’m happy to announce that I am now au naturale!

How are you currently rocking your hair and why?

I’ve been in and out of protective styles since December 2015. I absolutely love replicating different curl patterns in the form of crochet styles. From twist outs to finger coils; I love it all. I take a 3-5 day break every few months to let my hair breathe, but I am in heavy protective mode for GROWTH! Right now, I’m in love with my Bahamas Curls. The movement is everything, and it only gets better with time!

What do you love the most about your hair?

I’m still learning my hair, but I love the thickness!  And randomly enough I love my widow’s peak <3

Final thought from Reese about natural hair…

“Never stop loving the crown of hair you’ve been blessed to wear”. Whether 3a or 4c, our hair is beautiful!
