The heart is the preliminary organ of the body. The proper functioning of the heart is very important to maintain the overall health of the body. But what about the health of the heart? No doubt exercise and proper diet are the main avenues towards the goal of keeping your heart in good health.

But before we get into these exercises let’s briefly talk about what our hearts actually do. Found on the left side of your chest you will find your body’s most crucial organ – your heart. It’s shaped like a fist and can weigh between about 10 to 12 ounces (280 to 340 grams) in men and 8 to 10 ounces (230 to 280 grams) in women, according to Henry Gray’s “Anatomy of the Human Body.” Its primary function is to pump blood throughout our bodies via the cardiovascular system. As the blood travels throughout our body it delivers oxygen and nutrients, while simultaneously removing unwanted carbon dioxide and waste. This is what keeps us alive.

There are a number of ways to keep your heart healthy that include but isn’t limited to eating healthy, maintaining your mental health, quit smoking and avoid contact with secondhand smoke, monitoring your blood pressure, and cholesterol.
