New Year’s Eve is coming up and this is the time when you dress your best and think of all the possibilities the new year has to offer. This is the one night you make sure EVERYTHING is on point. From your hair down to your toes.
To add a little extra sparkle to your outfit I am going to show you how to make your own glitter gel. This is great for when you want to add a little POP of sparkle to your ensemble. I will also show you two cute hairstyles that you can rock the night away with.
This recipe is easy peasy. All you need is a bowl and spoon for mixing, clear gel (use ECO styler it lasts longer), glitter of your choice and a makeup brush. I decided to go with a fine glitter which really packs a punch and has less fallout. You can also choose a chunky glitter which will really make your tresses stand out.
Let’s get started!
You want to put about 3-4 tablespoons of gel into a bowl.
Then pour a generous amount of glitter over the gel. The more glitter you add the more pigmented it will be. I wanted to make sure my glitter gel stood out so I added a lot!
Stir the glitter and gel together. Voila! You have glitter hair gel.
Now that your glitter gel is ready. Let’s style our hair. I have two hairstyles that will turn heads:
Low Ponytail
This is a very simple hairstyle but one that can look great for a night out on the town.
You start with making a part down the middle of our head.
Then you make sure to gel down the front and brush into a low ponytail. I added Big Chop clip ins for volume.
To cover the clips just take some hair from the bottom of the ponytail, wrap it around to the other side and bobby pin in place.
Once your ponytail is looking exactly how you want it use the makeup brush to apply the glitter gel on either side of the part.
You are all done and ready for your party.
Disco Ball Twist Out
Put hair in twist, using the makeup brush apply as little or as much of the glitter gel you would like.
To make sure hair is stretched for next day, bobby pin twist to opposite side of hair for maximum stretch.
Let dry overnight or sit under hair dryer (if drying overnight don’t forget the silk pillowcase, bonnet or silk scarf).
Take twist down and separate.
Use a hair pick to get maximum volume.
I love this style because it can be as bold or as simple as you want. I decided to go with a low key disco ball hairstyle. When you are in the low light of a party, it just flickers and looks gorgeous. If you don’t want glitter gel all over you can do a simple peek-a-boo look by doing a few twists with the gel on the side of your hair above your ears and that look is great too. When you’re ready to wash the glitter gel out just make sure to do an oil pre-poo which will help get the glitter out.
If you wanted to go with a vintage look check out my Vintage Crown Bun-Roll Tuck & Pin Tutorial. You can also add a little glitter to the side twist in the vintage look and you’re ready to party.
Now that your hair is popping you’ll need an banging makeup look to go with your hair. Check out Maria’s GRWM Holiday Party video for inspiration.
