The feeling of summertime doesn’t have to be kept to just the outside. In this post, I’m going to show you ten ways that you can quickly and easily decorate your home for summer. Most of all these items you will be able to find in your local stores like Target or Marshalls, as well as online, or you can attempt a little DIY and make them yourself.
Hang Summertime Artwork
Swap out those pictures from last Halloween and Christmas, and replace them with pictures that remind you of summer. These can be pictures from a previous vacation or it can be decorative prints that you’ve framed. Your decor and design options are endless so let your creativity shine through. Now if you’re worried about your walls with all the picture rearranging you’ll be doing don’t be – Command damage-free hanging strips have you covered. Decorate Your Backyard
Summer is all about gathering with your family and friends outdoors. Regardless of how much space you have with the right accents and decor, you can create the perfect summer escape at home. If you have a smaller space you can add a patio chair set with a small table or a hammock and for larger spaces, you can get sectional seating. But don’t stop there. You can get some outdoor lights to hang on your fence, dangle under your patio umbrella or wrap around a tree to create the perfect atmosphere for dinner under the stars.
Add A Pop of Color
You’ll be surprised at what a little pop of color here and there throughout your house can do to welcome summertime. I know some people are put off by too much color because it can be hard to coordinate with your existing decor or maybe you just don’t know how to accessorize it. But it doesn’t have to be that way. You can start small with accent pieces like a vase, a small area rug, throw pillows or wall hangings. These are all things that you can easily store away after the season is over.
Use Colorful Tablesettings
Speaking of color, it doesn’t have to be kept to your living room or bedroom. You can definitely add it to your kitchen by using colorful plates and bowls. So put away your dark colored decor and lighten up your kitchen and dining room space with colorful summertime themes.
Bring The Outside In
Sure you can get plants and flowers any time during the year. But, there’s something about the addition of plants and flowers in your home during the warmer months that really makes the space feel extra summery. If you don’t have a green thumb you can get artificial plants and flowers which look just as nice. And you don’t have to stop at floral additions, you can also add starfish, seashells, and other items you’ve collected from the outdoors.
Summer Fragrances
Nothing brings the home together quite like its scent. Cedar, pumpkin, and cinnamon are all too heavy for these summer months. Instead, stick with the lighter scents that are fruity or floral and anything with summer in the name – you can never go wrong with that. Candles also serve two purposes, in addition to their fragrance they’re also great decor accessories as they come in a number of shapes, sizes, and colors.
Lighten Up Your Bedroom
If you haven’t already done so you should swap out your heavier dark colored bedding for lighter airer fabrics. If you have a duvet you can get or change the duvet cover to something more vibrant to match the season. Also, don’t forget to change the artwork in your bedroom as well. If you don’t want any pictures in your bedroom you can also opt for a mirror. Mirrors not only give the room depth but the sunlight will bounce off giving your bedroom even more light.
Change Your Curtains
In the colder months, it makes sense to hang heavier curtains as a way to keep out the draft and cold of winter. But in the summer it’s best to take those down as you want to allow for sunlight and breeze to flow freely through your home. Look towards a flowier sheer curtain. You can get the quintessential white or something patterned. Also, open your windows (if it isn’t too hot) let the summer breeze blow into your home for a couple of hours a day.
Change Your Bathroom Decor
Bathrooms are usually left untouched when the seasons change but it shouldn’t be. Swapping out your shower curtain, rugs, and decor can really take your bathroom from cold and drab to warm and summery.
Garden
You’ve added greeny inside but don’t forget the outside. Visit your local nursery and get potted plants and flowers to decorate your entrance, balcony or backyard area. If you really wanted to connect with nature you can garden as well.
