We all love a good protective style for its convenience and protection of our natural hair. As of late, we have been diving into new ways to get around installation time of traditional box braids, sew ins, etc. While many products and methods have surfaced, I think I’ve found the best of both worlds. These faux locs have the most natural look you can find and they are looped at the end, making the crochet process easier than ever! I am super excited to dive into this process and share this product with you. Unlike other faux locs, these gorgeous hand-made locs happen to be reusable and light weight. Let’s get to it!

Directions:

  • Soak synthetic dreads in 1 cup distilled vinegar or apple cider vinegar and half sink of water
  • TIP: Soaking before installation removes alkaline resulting in less itching
  • Rinse the locs with lukewarm water, wring out excess water, lay out to dry
  • Start with blown out hair and apply Cantu Daily Moisturizing Oil
  • Part hair into sections (I have 9 rows in total)
  • Using brick lay technique, parting each section into small block/square
  • Plat each square section of hair down to middle of real hair
  • Add in thin amount of synthetic hair (previously sectioned and put to the side)
  • Continue braiding down to the end of synthetic hair
  • Install faux loc using crochet method
  • Using crochet needle, pull braided hair through faux loc loop
  • Tighten loop and braid at the scalp and then wrap around the faux loc
  • Secure the wrapped braid with an elastic band
  • Cut a thin piece of Marley hair in half
  • Pull opposite end of one half Marley hair to thin out the ends
  • Line up blunt end to the elastic band and start wrapping from scalp
  • Wrap Marley hair around the braid and loc until reaching the thinnest strand
  • Hand roll to complete the look
  • Repeat process through out entire head
