Hey guys!!! I made yet another change!! It’s almost my two year hair anniversary,so that means time for a celebration!!! First off I haven’t cut my hair , second I haven’t colored my hair in two years!! So with that being said I needed to add some pizazz to my locks ASAP!!!
Before you view this video I wanted to talk about what color I used. I am a professional hairstylist and I used professional only hair color. I didn’t not want what I used to take away from the technique I was showing. I used Redken Chromatics color line, for the back half of my hair I used a natural brown in a level 4. For the top I used three hair colors, bleach and a toner. Here is a list of colors used: Mahogany Brown, Copper light brown and bleach with a light blonde toner! I hope this helps when your searching for similar colors but don’t get caught up in trying to color JUST like me explore your options. Before I was a professional hair stylist I used Sally’s hair color they have a ton of options and great people to assist in any questions!
Here is my video of the process step by step!

I’m so inspired, I have been itching to color my hair, but I’ have been apprehensive, until seeing ur video. I wish u were in NYC so you could do it for me. Lol it looks AMAZING!!!
Wow… you are fabulous Maria… your hair look amazing!
Thank you!!!!
Awwww!!! I think that with patience and more patience you’ll be just fine!!! I am always nervous before any change to my hair…and this was my FIRST time foiling my own head…so it can be done take your time and if it helps start your color project small…you don’t have to do your whole head…that can be very intimidating! Remember color dirty hair!!!
Best of luck Doll!!!
Did you ever do a post on the upkeep of colored hair. I’ve been wanting to color my hair but afraid of breakage?!?!? Any suggestions? Please share…
BTW, I love your hair!!
Hey Boo!!! I havent done anything on upkeep of color treated hair but I will! For now just to fill you in the most important part of color treated hair is to keep it moisturized. Be it if you wear it straight always shampoo with a color safe shampoo and conditioner and use a leave in. If using heat always, I repeat always use a heat protectant!! Once hair is lighten it does weaken the hair shaft but never to the point a relaxer does. So make sure whoever colors your hair they know what they are doing and you should be good to go!! Also being natural is great because our hair is strongest so it doesn’t affect the shaft near as much! Hope that helps!
Hi Maria,
Do you have any tutorials on how to bleach your natural hair properly? I bought the bleach and the color at a professional store but I am afraid. I’v colored my hair in chocolate and I wonder if bleaching is necesarry
This video and I have another bleach video on my YouTube channel but for weave but same mixing and technique. Also a tip you have to use bleach once your hair is colored regardless of the shade because color can not lift color. I hope this helps!
I aologize for the delay I didn’t get notice you had commented…Yes if you have colored your hair you will have to lift with bleach. Color will not lift color. But the good thing is you didn’t do black so you should start a lower developer and even amount of powder bleach using foils or just applying it to a chuck for a bigger highlight. hope that helps…just watch the lift and rinse when you get to the desired color. Also never use bleach on relaxed hair!
