When I saw that Curlformers had a “Barrel Curl” options I was too excited to give them a try. I purchased the Extra Wide and Long Curlformers Kit. The kit comes with 24 rollers and 2 hooks. I also purchased 2 additional packs of the rollers which gave me an additional 8 rollers.
I started this adventure with freshly shampooed hair. I used Shea Terra Organics Moroccan Mud Poo in Menthe – Tea Vanilla. This shampoo cleans my hair but doesn’t strip all of my natural oils so I only need to add a little Argon Oil and my favorite leave in conditioners.
I applied Matrix Total Results Break Fix and Design Essentials HCO leave ins. Both of these leave in conditioners do wonders for my hair they are light weight but super effective.
I then sectioned my hair and applied my Design Essential Compositions Foaming Wrap, making sure I brushed the foam in with my Denman Brush to assure foam was evenly coating my hair. Because the rollers are wider I was able to put a large amount of hair into each section. With my hair in the Curlformers I pulled them back and went to bed. Sleeping in these rollers is a task within it’s self to say the least.
The next morning my hair was completely dry when I removed the Curlformers. My hair was stretched, silky and I had gorgeous barrel curls. I was beyond shocked that the extra wide rollers could give me the same effect as the original Curlformers. My 3c/4a texture curls were now beautiful large bouncy curls!
Things that I learned and would do different:
I would part my hair into larger sections. If I would of used larger sections of my hair I would of used fewer rollers.
I would measure my hair prior to buying the rollers. My hair was longer than the rollers in a few places, even though my hair turned out great I won’t be able to get a lot of use out of this kit. 🙁
All in all I love the Curlformers Extra Wide and Long. They are a effective way to stretch your natural hair without heat and you get gorgeous curls at the same time!

Anything with moisture is going to cause shrinkage. Once our hair gets wet it wants to curl.
