Okay, so I’m being hilariously dramatic but let me break it down for you. As you know, my husband and I made a plan for our kitchen upgrade and we are truly following it—very well actually. But if you’ve ever started and finished a project of any type, you know that once the project kick-off euphoria (i.e. the honeymoon) ends and it’s time to start executing your concepts and ideas, it can be super frustrating. I’ve been there and done that but this time I might be a little distracted, but I’m not nearly as frustrated as I’ve been in the past.
We have made progress for sure and it’s actually been a joy to spruce up our nest together. And with our new kitchen redesign plan in place combined with our Chase Freedom Unlimited cash back credit card, we have the ability to achieve one of our goals for 2019 all while earning 1.5% cash back on our purchases—a double win! This has largely been the reason my frustration levels have been low on this project. I mean, we have a plan, we have funds, and we’re having fun! What could possibly be an issue with an array of hundreds, no thousands, of amazing options and combinations of colors, textures, materials?
Decor Distractions
If you guessed that this might be where the distraction comes from – well, you’re right. Now when I say distraction, I don’t mean it in a negative sense at all. It’s actually like a challenge that is also a blessing. Take for example when we went out and bought our barstools. We went to one of Knoxville’s largest and best furniture stores. Before going in we decided we would take our time to look around. This would give us room to think about other redesign ideas we planned to do later on. You see, this kitchen decor project is just the first phase in what will be a whole house remodel/redesign.
My husband, now this was a bit shocking, said, “Hey let’s look at couches and living room sets while we’re here.” It surprised me, but his reason was to make sure that we purchased pieces that would represent a uniform interior design aesthetic moving forward for our home. So, we didn’t buy a couch that day, but we did look at several and used them to give us some clarity and focus amidst the array of distracting options in barstools and other items. This also helped us nail down EXACTLY what we are going to do for our accent wall. If you all don’t mind, I want to keep this as a surprise.
So What Decor Did We Purchase?
A purchase we had planned for this month were our rugs. We found the perfect runner for the working triangle in the kitchen. It has all of our colors and it’s striking but not over the top. We still haven’t found the perfect rug for under the eat-in table. We want to go with something durable. They have the same rug we got for the kitchen in a large enough size for under the table, but I just don’t know how I feel about the fringe in a large space so, for now, the hunt continues.
For next month we have a list of items to buy: new dishes, flatware, and all the finishing touches. The cool thing is, we have the clarity we need to complete our kitchen decor project while also having the inspiration, connection, and freedom to pick from what feels like an unlimited array of options! Using our Chase Freedom Unlimited cash back credit card also allows us to carry out our kitchen décor goals without the huge immediate burden on our budget!
