What are two things we usually complain about doing, besides paying bills? You guessed it, working out and cleaning. While hitting the gym is totally optional cleaning up is not. But what if I told you that you could workout and do your chores.
Planking and Floor Cleaning
Cleaning the floors is something that we all have to do. Of course, you can use a mop. But the point is to get calories burned and our heart rates up. To accomplish this we’re going to plank while and get the floors spick-and-span. To do this you want to do is make sure you have your legs spread out, your back flat and you take your damp cloth and clean in a circular motion. When you’re done take your dry cloth and repeat those same circular motions. You keep going until you have the whole floor cleaned.
Dusting and Squatting
Dusting is my least favorite chore but I get through it by incorporating my favorite workout, and that is, squats. Squats are great for your thighs and your glutes so it’s a total win-win. All you have to do is a single swipe to dust then squat. The faster you dust the faster the squats. You’re totally going to feel the burn while ridding your house of those dust bunnies.
Stair Shuffles
Since you go up and down the stairs a million times a day you might as well incorporate an exercise that’ll increase your agility and your heart rate. Insert stair shuffles. This is totally easy and fun to do. After you step on the stair you shuffle your feet in place quickly then you move on the next step. Keep going til you get to the top.
Vacuuming and Lunges
When vacuuming I like to do full body exercises and walking lunges while I vacuum is a perfect way to accomplish this. This is going to target your thighs, core, and arms. It’s really simple, start up your vacuum and step into a lunge while you push the vacuum across the floor. Remember to keep your back straight.
Laundry and Pause Squats
This is where you drop down in a seated position as you load your washer. It’s going to work your thighs and your glutes. This is gonna be a little hard to do because you have to keep your core tight as well as keeping your balance. If you have a front loader get into squat position and hold it while you load one piece of clothing into the machine at a time. If you have a top loader instead of hunching over squat down to pick up the next item of clothing. The longer it takes the more it burns. And the burn is good. Now, if you want a bit of a challenge you can add a pulse to your squat which means the faster you work the more painful it’s going to be. So there’ll be an incentive for you to hurry up and finish.
Arms and Counters
I really enjoy working out my arms so that’s why I try hard to incorporate working them out into my counter cleaning.
I like to do a little thing called wax on wax off. The key to this is putting enough pressure so that you’re working out your triceps and your shoulders.

This is a really helpful list, well I am in a habit of getting on to the cleaning spree every now and then.
The best way I’ve found to get motivated to do chores is to first watch the video “Chore Day” by Three Beat Slide (available for free on YouTube). The video hilariously covers the most common household tasks such as doing the laundry, dusting shelves, putting toys away, vacuuming, doing the dishes, etc., and is guaranteed to put a smile on your face! You may even find yourself singing their song as you do your own chores!
