A lot of us see our 20’s as the age to live life and celebrate. To be honest, you are right. This is the time for you to live life and experience things. You will make mistakes and a lot of lessons will stick with you for the rest of your life. While having fun it’s also good to prepare for the future because there are a lot of things we get to do now that we will not be able to do in a few years.
My top three things to focus on are:
Travel
Everyone is traveling these days and you should too. Not just to take a bomb picture for Instagram but for you to experience another side of the world that you have never encountered before. Make a list and travel to those countries to learn about their cultures. You’ll always come back home with a new perspective on at least one new thing.
Savings
Yes, that’s right! Save as much as you can in your 20’s. Especially if you are earning a decent living. Don’t blow money because you have it. Prepare for tomorrow. Always save for the next six months just in case you no longer have a job or there is an emergency. Don’t be that person with a good job who only spends money because you know a good paycheck is coming. Also, don’t spend money on miscellaneous before you save money. Some of us lack the knowledge of finance. However, there are many resources out there to help you budget and save. If necessary, plan on paying a specific debt every 6 months. This will increase your net worth.
Self-Discovery
This sounds very cliché but it is necessary. Focus on getting to know yourself and finding your passion. If you feel like you want to do five different things, well take a class for each and see if it is really meant for you. This will help you cut down your list and slowly focus on that one thing that you cannot stop thinking about. There is no age limit to figuring out what you want and who you are in life. But you don’t have to be a wanderer forever. Get to know yourself and what works for you.
These are the top three for me because it is a way to experience life.
You learn a new side of you when you are in a different setting, you prepare for the future and you discover yourself as well as finding your purpose. They say it takes 21 days to form a habit so for at least 3 months, let’s focus on doing at least one of the things listed above. An investment in you is always a profit. There is no better feeling than doing something that makes you happy and can benefit you 10 years from now.
