Summer is coming and you’re interested in changing up your look, the only problem – you can’t get to a hair salon. Have no fear I’ve found five easy to do summer natural hair trends that you can create at home. I chose these styles because although we’re unable to get our tresses professionally done due to the COVID closures that don’t mean we still can’t look cute. These are styles are perfect for any skill level and therefore you should not feel intimidated to do them on your own.

Let’s take a look at these trends!

Yeah, you wear your messy bun for a quick Target run or to wash clothes but this season is all about rocking your messy bun all the time. Now the key with messy buns is, they are supposed to be messy. So try to refrain from making all your hairs slicked down. This is about tendrils and fly away strands. Here’s a tutorial to help you style your messy bun.

Box braided high ponytails are all the rage! The style is a classic and can be done with microbraids or jumbo braids. Remember the higher the pony the more fierce it is. Oh, don’t forget to lay those edges. For even MORE inspiration here are 25 fierce ponytails you’ll want to rock this summer. If you’re unable to braid your own hair I got you covered with a box braid tutorial.

I recently created an afro bob using Royal Prerogative Curl Clips. This was a quick and easy installation process. Bob hairstyles are great during the summer as it allows you to keep your shoulders and/or neck free of hair and sweat. Everyone’s favorite natural hair vlogger Naptural85 recently declared short hair don’t care and cut her long locks. She did the cut herself and you can follow along below if you’re considering cutting your own hair.

When you can’t decide between two colors why not be bold and choose both! Due to the fact that we can’t get to the salon, there are a couple of ways you can do this at home. You can use either spray-on hair color or you can use color wax. Now the great thing is both of these options are temporary. I prefer this route over getting it professionally dyed because you can safely change the color of your hair whenever you want.

Summer and beach waves go hand in hand which makes perfect sense as to why this would be a trend to rock this summer. You can achieve this look by doing a loose braid out, using a curling wand, or as Kimberly Cherrell shows us you can use a satin Octocurl. I’ve never tried this method but I would be willing to give it a shot as her hair looked super cute and summery.
